Creating healthier environments by improving access to healthy foods and encouraging physical activity can help prevent obesity among children and adults. This executive summary of The California Endowment-funded Healthy Eating Active Communities (HEAC) and Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) initiatives that created healthier environments and reduced chronic disease in low-income communities. The goal of the evaluation was to learn how changes in 6 key areas, including schools, neighborhoods, and health care providers in the communities can prevent obesity.
