Welcome to The Sarah Samuels Center for Public Health Research & Evaluation Website
Established nearly 20 years ago, The Sarah Samuels Center for Public Health Research & Evaluation (Samuels Center), is nationally recognized for its public health research, program and policy evaluation, evaluation training and technical assistance and strategic planning expertise.
Our Mission:
The Sarah Samuels Center for Public Health Research and Evaluation works in collaboration with partners to identify effective strategies that promote healthy and equitable communities.
Our evaluation work focuses on chronic disease prevention with the goal of improving health and reducing health disparities. Much, if not all, of our work is concentrated in low resource and ethnically diverse communities where rates of chronic illness are highest. Our areas of specialization include childhood obesity prevention, nutrition and physical activity, tobacco prevention and control, women’s health, community and youth engagement, health policy, and public health practice. We provide clients with evaluation services to document and understand the growth of vibrant, healthy communities and address the root causes of inequities. We are particularly interested in the extent to which nutrition and physical activity policies have been adopted and implemented and its impact on community residents.
Samuels & Associates, Inc. was founded by the late Dr. Sarah Samuels, who dedicated her long and successful career as a public health researcher and advocate to improve the public’s health. Upon her passing in 2012, the Samuels Center was created to honor her work and her countless accomplishments. Legally, we remain Samuels & Associates and are doing business as (DBA), The Sarah Samuels Center for Public Health Research & Evaluation.
